Sony Unveils DPP-F700 Digital Frame with Built-in Photo Printer

Photography Industry News

San Diego, CA—

Sony unveiled a multitasking digital photo frame in its S-Frame line that features a built-in printer (model DPP-F700).

The all-in-one device allows both photo viewing and printing: The DPP-F700 features a 7-inch (diagonal),16:10 LCD display with WVGA (800x480) resolution, and it prints 4x6-inch 300x300-dpi photos in 45 seconds.

Users can edit images before printing; options include enlarge, reduce, crop, date stamp on/off, border/borderless (single prints) and brightness, contrast, hue and sharpness adjustment. Using its creative print mode, consumers can make a calendar with pictures (over 30 templates), print an ID photo or create a “layout print” with multiple images on one sheet. Another preference includes the ability to print exactly what’s displayed on the screen during a slideshow using the screen capture function.

The DPP-F700 provides about 1GB of internal storage with an auto-resizing adjustment that downsizes files to store 2,000 photos. And image transfer is accomplished via a USB input from a PC or from memory cards, including Memory Stick Pro, MS Pro Duo, SD, SDHC, MMC, CompactFlash and xD-Picture Card media.

Additional features include: an auto orientation sensor that rotates photos into portrait or landscape format, whether the frame is positioned vertically or horizontally; its range of view/print modes and other functions can be managed from the included remote control; multiple playback options, including displaying photos as single images, thumbnails for searching, or slideshows with 10 transitions; and support for JPEG, TIFF and BMP formats.

Sony’s DPP-F700 digital photo frame-printer, which comes with a paper tray, AC adapter, print driver/PMB CD, manual, cleaning kit and stand, will be available for about $200 in January. Optional print packs will also be offered: the SVM-F40P (40 sheets of photo paper and cartridge) and SVM-F120P (120 sheets of photo paper and cartridges). sony.com
